Mute Swans are the largest members of the Swan family. They have bright orange bills and black legs. They are widely spread along the northwest coast of North America, the central part of the east coast of North America and the Great Lakes region of North America. Like many other fowl, swans mate for life and nests are usually hollow depressions on the ground lined with soft downy feathers. Mute swans were introduced by early settlers from Europe where they were often kept as domesticated fowl.
