"Through the lens of a camera..... with a brush in mind"
Roman Kall is an amateur nature and wildlife photographer. “Nature provides a never ending source of inspiring images. Their shapes, textures and colours calm my soul and refresh my spirit. "To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy. "
Henri Cartier-Bresson
Early interest in watercolour painting has been combined with digital photography to produce unique artwork which is neither painting nor photograph. The resulting photo art image is a combination of both.
“Composition is extremely important. That’s what you have to start with. A good digital image is the first step. What the eye sees through the lens of the camera is the image that can later be manipulated like a watercolour painting. I seldom crop any photo."
Watercolour painting techniques of brush stroke, texture, shading and colour layering have been computer applied to an original digital photographic image which is then printed.
"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for. "
Georgia O'Keeffe
Some images are printed on professional photo paper while others may be printed on archival watercolour paper using archival inks. Larger images are printed on canvass or polyester silk material, stretched, mounted and framed.

The artist is honoured to have his photoart hanging in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Helsinki and many homes and businesses in the Niagara Region.
